1. What is attendance tracking?
Attendance tracking involves recording and monitoring student participation during classes, lectures, or training sessions. It helps measure both attendance and engagement and can be used to identify frequent absences. Attendance records may also be required to comply with legal or accreditation standards when applying for financial sponsorship or visa requirements.
Many institutions also use attendance data for grading, rewards, or disciplinary purposes. Tracking can be used for in-person, online, or hybrid classes.
Attendance tracking is available for Pro plans and above. Would you like to upgrade?
2. How does attendance tracking work?
With Vevox, Attendance data is available in the data report under the Attendance tab.
The Attendance Tab gives you a quick rundown of:
- who attended,
- when they first joined,
- and last left is when they were last active in this session. This is especially useful for recurring sessions.
All the data, including timestamps and session activity, is also downloadable in an Excel sheet—perfect for copying, sharing, or analyzing. Go to the dashboard's data section to access the Attendance tab and Excel report.
The report you generate will vary depending on whether your session's Identification setting is set to 'Identified' or 'Anonymous':
- For anonymous sessions: Participant names will not appear in the report.
- For identified sessions: The report will include participant names and surnames.
- If your session is linked to Single Sign-On (SSO) like Microsoft or participants joined through an LTI/VLE integration (like Blackboard, Moodle & Canvas) with their student credentials, their email addresses will also be included in the report.
- But if the LTI/VLE session is set to anonymous, the Vevox session will automatically be anonymous, as will the reporting.
3. How to enable attendance tracking?
Your Vevox session must have participant identification enabled attendance tracking.
Attendance tracking can also automatically be achieved through Single Sign-On (SSO) or integrations with Virtual Learning Environments (VLEs).
Even when identification is set to “Identified,” participants can still contribute anonymously during the session. Votes remain confidential and are shown only as group results in Present view and on screen. Depending on the session settings, students can also ask questions anonymously via the Q&A board.
Students will only be identified in the data report.
Here are 4 tips & examples on how to ensure simple class attendance & participation tracking.
4. FAQ for attendance tracking
Does Vevox track scores for quiz questions answered correctly?
A: Yes, all scores can be tracked as live polls or asynchronous quizzes. Depending on identification settings, these scores can be anonymous or identified and shared on live leaderboards via a big screen and on participants' devices. With our LTI integration into your LMS, these scores can be passed to your grade book.
Can Vevox track student participation, i.e., how many questions they answered but with no scores associated?
A: Yes, you can download a full data Excel report showing all polling activity by individual, whether it be scoring-style questions or non-scored polls. Go to the data tab in your Vevox dashboard to access this report.
Does Vevox offer geofencing-based attendance tracking?
A: We do not currently use geolocation or geofencing technology. However, we are always looking for new and interesting ways to accommodate your needs, so we are more than happy to discuss your thoughts and ideas. To express your interest or share your ideas, please email us at hello@vevox.com.
