While the Q&A feature allows participants to submit questions, comments, ideas, or feedback, an announcement (also known as a host message) works in the opposite direction—it's a message sent from you, the host, to all participants.
These messages are displayed on:
-
The Q&A board
-
Participant mobile devices
-
Present view (if being used)
Why Use Announcements?
Announcements are a great way to:
-
Welcome participants at the start of your session
-
Share important updates
-
Encourage participation
-
Provide instructions or time reminders
You can:
- Write your own message, or
- Use one of our pre-set announcement templates
- Prepare announcements in advance and publish them when needed
- Disable any announcements on the welcome screen (when the Q&A board is paused or turned off.)
Using announcements effectively can help guide your session smoothly and keep your audience engaged.
How to Tell the Difference Between an Announcement and a Participant Message
There are two key differences:
-
Placement on the Q&A board
-
Announcements are always pinned to the top of the message list—no matter which tab you're viewing.
-
Participant messages, however, appear in either the ‘Published’ or ‘Needs Review’ list, based on your moderation settings.
-
-
Color and background
-
Announcements appear with a different background color, making them stand out from participant messages.
-
This ensures your messages catch everyone’s attention.
