What is Data API and how to use it?
Data API (application programming interface) is a method used to extract large amounts of raw data from a tenancy with high volume Vevox sessions into a CSV format. From here, the CSV format must be imported into third-party software to visualize and analyze the data to be a useful resource. Such software can typically include programs like Tableau or Power BI.
Individual sessions do not need any Data API extraction, as users can immediately access their Vevox data report (already in a visual summary) after a session is run. This is available in the Vevox dashboard to all users with starter plans and up. But to have access to Data API reports you need to be an account admin.
- Data API extraction does not give a breakdown of individual votes only the overall results of a poll. (Use the data report to access individual votes.)
- Only the Q&A messaging & open text reports will render individual responses but will only be identified if the session setting was set up as identified.
- All polling results will be amalgamated and compiled using the same poll type in different sessions. The same for all survey results.
- For example, all live multichoice questions are pulled together in a report, all live numeric poll questions in another report, all live open text questions in another report, etc. Surveys would have their own multichoice questions, numeric poll questions, and so on.
- Your third-party software would then analyze & visualize the large amount of data above.
- All poll results and Q&A messages will be identified by the session (9-digit session ID) they were captured in.
Who will typically use Data API?
An institution or company that has a large number of user licenses and/or running a high volume of sessions with Vevox who would like to interpret, analyze, and see data from multiple sessions combined.
Benefits of using automated Data API with third-party software
- Scalable analyses of audience sentiment & feedback.
- Rapid response time & quicker decisions based on insights captured during sessions.
- Identify trends over multiple sessions.
- Analyze patterns & knowledge gaps over multiple classes or audiences.
- Efficiency in analyzing large amounts of data.
Example of a Data API extraction
A Vevox host wants to know what his audiences' favorite food is. He asks the same question to different audiences in multiple sessions. The question in Present view looks like this:
The Vevox data report provides the responses in a downloadable image (PNG) for that specific session.
The Data API will amalgamate the results of the various sessions as a CSV like this:
Example of a Q&A message report:
Resource requirements
- A business/education account with Vevox with a large number of users and/or sessions.
- A business/education specialist to identify what data is needed and how it will be used.
- Someone with an understanding of API’s to implement the Data API and set it up and ingest the data into the third-party software.
- Third-party software to analyze and visualize the extracted data.
- Fees: Contact your account manager to discuss gaining access and any relevant fees.
