The comparison poll involves asking the same question twice (or multiple times) within a session and then comparing the results. It helps measure changes in perceptions throughout the session, and identify whether any knowledge gaps have been filled. It also offers insight into how opinions or knowledge evolve from the beginning to the end of the session.
Before you create your polls, identify what specific change you want to measure. This could be anything from knowledge gained, attitudes shifted, skills improved, or satisfaction increased.
Tips for using before and after comparison polls
- The polls must be multichoice polls.
- You can allocate a correct answer to this poll type.
- The comparison will only show in bar chart format, not pie chart format.
- It is best to duplicate the poll, as the question title & options must be identical for it to be able to compare poll results.
- Ask the before poll at the beginning of the session. Ask the after poll later or at the end of the session.
- The comparison icon will appear only after the same poll has been asked twice and has received voting results.
- You can ask the same poll multiple times, allowing you to compare results from these repeated polls.
- Rather than asking too broadly, focus on specific areas you hope to impact e.g., knowledge of a topic, confidence in a skill, or satisfaction with a service or product.
- In educational or training settings, ask baseline questions to gauge participants' starting knowledge or familiarity with the topic. This will help show how much progress was made.
- The colors used in the bar chart are fixed and comply with our accessibility standards.
Steps to create comparison polls
Step 1: Create the before comparison poll
In the Polls section select the '+ Create new' button.
Select 'Multichoice' as the poll type.
Enter the 'Question title' of your poll.
Then enter the 'Choices' you want your participants to choose from.
Lastly, choose the number of allowed selections. Press 'Create'.
Step 2: Duplicate the comparison poll and move it to the end of the session
Now, duplicate this poll to create the after-comparison poll. Add additional polls if necessary. Once you have added your other polls, move the duplicated poll to the middle or end of your session, depending on where in your session you want to measure the change.
Step 3: Ask your polls and reveal the comparison
Ask all your polls, including both the before and after comparison polls, and reveal the results.
Once you have asked the after-comparison poll, click on the ‘Compare with previous poll’ icon on the right-hand side of the screen.
If you've asked the same poll more than twice, you'll see a dropdown option to select which comparison poll you'd like to use (e.g., the middle or end poll). This comparison option will only be available after the voting results for the second or subsequent duplicate polls are available.
How to access a comparison poll after your session ends
While the data report and its result images won’t display a visual of the comparison poll you can still access this information after your session ends.
To do this, reopen your session, go into Present view, and restart the session. Display duplicate poll results, select the comparison icon, and take a screenshot.
For raw data, go to the Data section in your dashboard, click 'Download Data Report,' and open the Excel file. Then, to view detailed results, check the 'Polling Summary' and 'Polling Results' tabs at the bottom.
