This article will look at how to structure an Excel template file to bulk import many polls or surveys into your Vevox sessions. This is ideal for large question banks, and those who want to make content upload quicker.
You can download a sample template from within your dashboard. Simply select the 'Import polls' or 'Import surveys' option and choose to download the sample template.
Once you have the Excel template, you can populate the sample sheet according to the information below. Use the Explanatory notes sheet to help you fill in your sample sheet according to the parameters.
Column headers:
-
Type - This is where you enter the type of question you want to import. This is always a required field, if you do not enter a type then you will receive an error when attempting to import the Excel file. The valid values for the 'type' are:
- MCQ (Multichoice question)
- WordCloud
- Text
- Ranking
- Numeric
- RatingScale
The Excel template does not support the importing of XY plot or Pin on image question types
- Title - This is always a required field. Every question type requires a title; if you do not enter a title of the question, you will receive an error when attempting to import the Excel file.
- SurveyName - This is an optional field and only relevant if you import questions into the 'Surveys' section of Vevox. If you import questions into the 'Polls' section, this field is ignored. If the field is left blank, all questions will be grouped into one unnamed survey when imported. You can give each question the same survey name or use different survey names for questions, and they will all be grouped into surveys of their respective name.
- Choice - This field is used for question types where you can specify a number of choices. Each choice you want to specify must have its own column. For example, if there are 4 possible choices then there must be 4 choice columns. This is a required field for the following question types: MCQ, Ranking, and RatingScale. If you populate this field for other question types, then it will be ignored when importing.
- CorrectAnswer - This is an optional field for questions that support a correct answer. It can be used for the following question types: MCQ, Text, Ranking, and Numeric. The value entered in this column must always be a numerical value. For example, if you have an MCQ question with 4 choices and the correct answer is the value you entered in the third choice column, the correct answer must be 3.
- AllowedSelections - This field is used for question types where you can specify the number of selections a participant is allowed to make. It is valid for the following question types: MCQ and Ranking. If you populate this field for other question types, then it will be ignored when importing.
- Minimum - This is an optional field used for the Numeric question type only. It is used to specify the minimum value that you want to be accepted as the input. It must be used in conjunction with a maximum value.
-
Maximum - This is an optional field used for the Numeric or RatingScale question types.
For Numeric questions, it is used to specify the maximum value that you want to be accepted as the input. It must be used in conjunction with a minimum value.
For RatingScale questions, it is used to specify the highest value on the scale (this must be a number between 2 and 10). - NumberOfDecimals - This is an optional field used for the Numeric question type only. It is used to specify the maximum number of decimal places you would like to accept. If left blank, no decimal places will be accepted as the input.
- LowerLabel - This field is for the RatingScale question type only. It specifies the label for the lowest value on the scale.
- UpperLabel - This field is for the RatingScale question type only. It specifies the label for the highest value on the scale.
If certain columns aren’t needed, you can either delete them from the Excel file or leave them blank.
After completing the Excel file, save it and upload or drag it to the Upload button. A preview will display all the polls to be imported. You can deselect any polls you want to exclude before clicking 'Import'.
Once imported, the polls will appear in your dashboard, where you can edit, move, duplicate, add images, or delete them as needed.
If your file has discrepancies, red and orange warning signs will highlight the issues.
- Red warnings indicate errors that prevent import.
- Orange warnings allow import but with alternative options.
Make the necessary changes in the Excel file and re-upload it to proceed.
