Want to run a test session? Testing your session before going live is always recommended. It helps you:
- Check the participant and student experience.
- Spot and fix any issues.
- Make edits where needed.
- Preview how everything will look on screen and in the participant app.
In this article, we’ll cover:
- How to test your polls or quiz before your live session
- How to test your surveys
- How to test your Q&A board
1. Testing Polls & quizzes
Open the Polls menu in the Vevox dashboard and start your session (if you haven’t already).
Open the participant app from the side menu. This launches a new tab showing exactly what participants will see & preview your poll on the participant app. Keep this open—you’ll use it to test polls, surveys, and Q&A that are in the same session.
In the Vevox dashboard, open Present view in a new tab (or full screen). Use the control bar to launch your first poll.
- Present view = what shows on the big screen.
- Participant app = what participants see on their own devices (where they vote and respond).
Jump to the other tab and cast a vote as if you were a participant.
From Present view, close the poll from the control bar, reveal the results, and move on to the next poll.
Repeat this for all your polls to check their appearance and flow.
Clear all session responses from your test run so you’re ready to go live with a clean slate. To reset your session you can either:
- Save the test results in session history (and label them as “test”), or
- Delete them completely.
When you reset your session or delete the results your data report stats will revert to zero. Note that the total participant number is one here, as you have the participant app still open and connected in the browser.
Finally, make edits in the dashboard if needed—update poll settings, edit & rearrange questions, or delete unwanted ones.
Important: if you don’t clear the test responses first, you may be blocked from making certain edits.
Retest & reset your polls by repeating steps 1–7 if you made edits. Otherwise, you are now good to go.
Testing Surveys
Go to the Survey menu in the Vevox dashboard and open your survey, if it’s not already opened. If it’s not opened, it won’t appear in the participant app.
Open the participant app from the side menu (if not yet open). Participants will land on the default screen and need to click the clipboard icon to access surveys. If you don’t see the icon, refresh the page.
Complete the survey as a participant. Unlike polls, surveys are offline activities—there’s no need to run them through Present view.
Stop the survey once finished in the Vevox dashboard. Then, delete all test responses by clicking the three dots and choosing 'Delete responses'. All the test results will now be deleted from your session and data report (make sure to check the survey tab in the data report).
Make any edits needed in the dashboard—adjust questions, reorder them, or delete as required.
Important: if you don’t clear the test responses first, you may be blocked from making certain edits.
Retest your survey by repeating steps 1–4, or simply start it again. Once your data report shows no more responses, you are good to go.
Testing Q&A
You can also test announcements and participant comments.
In the Vevox dashboard, select Q&A from the left-hand menu.
To test announcements, click Manage & publish announcements. Type your own announcement or choose one of the sample messages, then publish it—it will appear instantly in the Q&A board.
Open Present view in a new tab (or full screen) to see how it looks on the big screen. You can also preview from the small Present view mirror inside the dashboard.
Open the participant app (if not already), click the speech bubble to open the Q&A board and send yourself a test comment (and repeat as needed). Also check in Present view what it will look like on the big screen.
To clear test comments: select the messages in the dashboard, then click the delete icon. They’ll be permanently removed.
To clear your test announcement: go back to Manage & publish announcements, and select Unpublish. Then click on the three dots to permanently delete it. The Q&A board will return to the default message: “Please submit your questions and ‘Like’ those sent by others.” Your Q&A board is now empty again.
