Correct answers can be set for Multichoice polls, Numeric polls, Pin on Image & Pin on Choice polls, Ranking polls and Text polls.
1. To set the correct answer do the following:
Create your poll in the preview display.
Set the correct answer(s) by selecting 'Set As Correct Answer' next to the choices.
Press 'Done' in the top right.
Correct answers introduce an extra step when you are controlling the poll. You can decide to show the correct answer on the participant devices or to skip to the next poll.
2. Correct answer explanation
Beyond sharing the correct answer, providing an explanation or background information can be essential. This is particularly valuable when assessing knowledge, conducting quizzes, or educating participants. Adding a correct answer explanation is optional; if you choose not to, leave the explanation box blank. Once configured, the explanation will automatically show in the Present view alongside the polling question and in the participant app after the poll is closed and you've opted to display the correct answer.
To set up the correct answer explanation:
Create your poll.
Set the correct answer(s) by selecting 'Set Correct Answer' next to the choices.
Then scroll down to the 'Correct Answer Explanation' box and type in your response. You can also use the rich text formatting for the explanation including bold, Italics, underlined, carriage return, Latex notations, bullets & numbering.
Press 'Done' to save your poll in the presentation list.
Reveal the correct answer and correct answer explanation in Present view.
For PowerPoint we suggest adding an additional slide with a text box showing the correct answer explanation.
3. Correct answers in Ranking polls
When you are using a ranking poll, note that you can only set up a correct answer when you choose the 'Rank the choices in the correct order' option (not the rank in order by preference).
When setting up the choices, enter them in the correct order from top to bottom — Vevox will automatically shuffle the order for participants when the poll goes live.
You can also add a correct answer explanation should you wish. Vevox will set the number of allowed selections a participant can make to equal the number of choice options.
When the poll is closed, present view will first show the most common responses from all the participants.
And when the correct answer is revealed, it will show the correct order of the poll & correct answer explanation.
4. Correct answers in Numeric polls
When you want to set a correct answer in a numeric poll, toggle the 'set correct answer' to on. Now enter your correct number. For more information on setting up error margins & decimal places read this article. We advise that when you have a large data range, you choose the number cloud display instead of the column chart or ordered list. It is optional to add your correct answer explanation.
5. Correct answers in Text polls
For Text polls, you can set up one or more correct answers to account for variations in spelling. Case sensitivity is automatically ignored in Vevox, simplifying participant input. You can allocate up to 15 correct answer options, but it's advisable to keep them concise, preferably one or two words, as longer answers may reduce participant accuracy.
6. Correct answers in Matching polls
A Matching poll has two lists: participants match items from the second list to match them to the prompts in the first.
To set up your matches & correct answers: Enter an item in the first list — this is the prompt participants will match from. Directly below it, enter the correct answer in the second list — this is the response they'll match to. Repeat for each pair. Optionally, add an explanation for the correct answer to give participants extra context.
Vevox automatically shuffles the order of both lists when the poll goes live, so participants won't see the answers in the order you entered them.
7. Scoring
When a correct answer is set, participants automatically earn 1 point for choosing it. With a Pro plan or higher, you can enable custom points and partial scoring, allowing participants to earn points even if their answers are only partially correct.
8. When using the dashboard to present:
After the polling results have been displayed to your participants there is the option to toggle the correct answer indicator on or off from the bottom of the question in the dashboard. This indicates which option is correct on all participant devices.
9. When using present view to present:
You can also decide to show the correct answers from the control bar in Present view. Or to just skip to the next poll.
10. Reporting when using correct answers:
In addition to indicating the correct answer on devices it is also possible to view the correct responses in the data report. A worksheet in the report keeps track of how many answers each participant has answered correctly. Check out the tab called 'Polling Results' for correct answers in live polls or 'Survey Results' for correct answers in survey questions.
11. Editing correct answer
To modify, rearrange, or delete a correct answer, open the Edit poll feature and navigate to your response options. Click the three dots next to the relevant option to move it up or down the list, or delete it entirely.
12. Changing correct answers after a poll has run
You can update correct answers even after a poll has received votes. This is especially useful for lecturers who need to tweak, correct, or update answers after participants have already responded. Common use cases include text polls where spelling variations caused correct answers to be excluded, or where a different answer option turns out to be more appropriate.
Any changes you make will:
- Be saved to your session automatically
- Update your leaderboard to reflect the new scores
- Sync through to any connected LTI platforms (Blackboard, Moodle, Canvas, and Brightspace)
Remember to sync or refresh your gradebook after making changes so that updated scores are reflected correctly.
What can you change by poll type?
The changes you can make depend on the poll type. Use the table below as a quick reference:
| Poll type | What you can change | What you cannot change |
|---|---|---|
| MCQ | Question title, choice option text, correct answer, order of the choice options using the move function | Add additional correct answers, add or remove the number of choice options |
| Text | Question title, correct answer text, add or remove as many correct answers as you like | — |
| Numeric | Question title, Correct answer and error margin | Minimum & maximum range, allowed decimal places |
| Ranking | Question title, choice option text, Order of correct answers using the move function | Add or remove the number of choice options |
| Matching | Question title, choice options text, correct answer text, move order of poll using the move function | Add or remove number of options |
| Pin on image | Move or resize the correct answer pin | Add or remove the number of correct answer pins |
Tips for editing polls with existing results
Changing choice option text
When editing the text of a choice option, highlight the existing text first — do not press Delete or Backspace. Simply start typing to replace it. This is especially important for the last choice option, as deleting the text can be interpreted by the system as removing that option entirely, which may affect the poll's allowed selection settings.
Changing the correct answer
When swapping a correct answer from one option to another, always remove the existing correct answer first, then assign it to the new option. Keep in mind that the number of correct answers must stay the same as in the original poll.
You cannot change the allowed selection in a poll once it has received votes. The system will not save this change unless you delete all existing responses — which defeats the purpose of editing rather than starting fresh.
