This article is about asking participants to pin a point on the image. If you want to learn more about other ways you can use imagery in polls read this article.
In many education, training, market research or language polling questions, the host would like to ask participants to point to any or a specific part of an image as part of the polling. Then, participants drop a pin(s) on the image where they think the best option/correct answer will be when voting.
Use it as an icebreaker to ask your participants to point where they are attending from on a map. Alternatively, test student knowledge by marking the correct body part on an image or X-ray. The possibilities are endless.
Participants can pinpoint up to 9 areas per image when answering the poll in this question type.

How to create a Pin on image poll:
Select 'Polls' from the main navigation menu on the left.
Press the '+ Add Content' button.
Select your question type as ‘Pin on image’.
Enter your question title. Rich text formatting is optional. The default setting is freeform pinning. Then press on the ‘Add Content’ icon to upload your image. It is optional to add an image description in the Alt text section enabling screen readers to help the visually impaired. If there is no correct answer to this question or no points to earn in a quiz, press ‘Done’ to save.
Press ‘Create’ to ensure your image is now part of the poll.
Optional step: Set up correct answer areas
Setting correct answer areas is optional. You can choose to mark specific target zones (up to nine) if your question has right or wrong answers — for example, when testing anatomy knowledge or identifying features on a map. Pins dropped within these areas will be counted as correct, and if quiz scoring is enabled, points will be awarded automatically.
However, you don’t have to define correct answers. You can instead allow participants to place pins anywhere they like to capture opinions, preferences, or creative ideas. This works well for market research, spatial planning, or design feedback.
Here you might reshape the first area into an oval for a premolar and group a square and circle together to cover odd shaped ones.
To create correct answer areas:
Add a shape: The
tool defaults to an ellipse.
Click and drag on the image to place it, then use the
bounding box to resize.
Adjust placement: Double-click
to rotate, or use your
arrow keys to move it.
Press
Enter when done.
Add more areas: Use
the Select tool
to add more
ellipses or
rectangles.
Group shapes: For
larger or irregular areas,
select multiple shapes
(hold
Shift) and click
'Group selection'.
They’ll move as one and count as a single correct area. You can
unlink them again
at any time.
Edit or delete: Rearrange
shapes anytime before saving, or click a shape and press
Delete to
remove it.
Add as many areas as needed to mark all correct regions.
The score awarded for correct answers depends on your poll’s setup in the Settings menu. By default, each correct answer is worth 1 point. If you’d like to adjust the points per answer or enable partial scoring, refer to this article.
Each grouped area counts as one correct answer. You can adjust or rearrange areas anytime before saving.
Optional step: Set up a Correct answer explanation
When you add a correct answer area, a Correct Answer Explanation box will appear on the right side of the image. Use this box to add a short description or explanation for the correct answer — a great feature for teaching or reinforcing learning points.
Your explanation will appear in Present View after the poll results are shown.
Note that the correct answer explanation does not appear in the participant app or in PowerPoint.
Allowed selections
Update the Allowed Selections setting to control how many pins participants can drop on the image. For this example, we’ll set it to two, as there are two premolars/bicuspids visible on the image.
You can adjust the number anywhere from 1 to 9, depending on how many areas participants need to identify. This lets you move beyond the default single selection — either by setting a specific limit (e.g., “choose three”) or by matching it to the number of correct answer areas set up.
Press the 'done' button when you are finished setting up your question and then select 'Create'.
Displaying the results
The poll results will appear in Present view once the poll is closed. In the example below, most participants placed their pins on the upper jaw, with a total of 16 votes (7 + 9) landing on the two bicuspids. Since both of these areas were set as correct answers, participants who pinned within them will earn points. All other pins placed outside the correct answer areas will not receive any points.
Displaying the correct answer
When you show your participants the correct answer in Present view, the marked areas, as well as the correct answer explanation, will appear in Present view.
Clicking on the image again will zoom in, giving you a closer look at the voting results and showing exactly where participants placed their pins.
Edit the poll
Should you wish to go back to your poll and add some changes go to the dashboard, select 'Edit' (three dots next to the poll) and make your change from there.
Answering a Pin on image poll
When participants answer the poll from their mobile device, they tap on the image on the desired point. A circled number with rulers will appear. This number can be moved around by dragging it.
Always remember to press the send button to submit your final pin on the image answer. The participant app will remind you. The participant app also has a toggle function to show only your own vote when displaying the answers.
Voting on a desktop - Participants can also use their mouse to drop a pin. Or press the information icon to get additional keyboard instructions to place new pins, select existing pins, delete pins or move pins etc.
