Practical video on how to moderate a Q&A session
The Q&A board can run with moderation ON or OFF. With moderation OFF, participant messages appear instantly in Present view and on their devices for everyone to see.
Turning moderation on allows you to control what participants see in the Q&A board. Every message must be reviewed and approved before it becomes visible in Present view and the participant app.
Use moderation when you want to:
- Ensure only appropriate questions/comments appear.
- Prevent disruptions or off-topic messages.
- Reveal questions at specific points in a session.
- Prioritize the most relevant discussions.
- Maintain a structured and professional environment.
Tip: If you expect a high volume of messages, it’s helpful to have an additional person managing the moderation process. This is easily done by sharing the Q&A board (only) or sharing your Vevox session.
To turn on moderation:
Go to Settings in the navigation menu.
Select the Q&A section.
Toggle Moderation to ON and click Save.
Shortcut: You can also enable moderation directly from the Q&A board by clicking the moderation icon.
Managing Moderated Messages
When moderation is enabled, the Q&A dashboard organizes messages into four lists:
- Needs Review – All new messages appear here first. They are hidden from participants until reviewed.
- Reviewed – An optional second step for another moderator to verify messages before publishing.
- Published – Messages that are approved and visible to all participants.
- Archived – Messages that have been hidden from view (off-topic, duplicate, or previously answered).
Tip: In Present view, Q&A messages are sorted by most liked by default, but you can change the sorting to most recent or oldest.
Example: published list in dashboard - All participants can see these messages in Present view and on the Q&A message board on their devices.

- All announcements will automatically appear in the published list.
Approving & Moving Messages
Moving One Message at a Time
Click the “Move to” icon next to a message.
Select where you want to move it:
- Reviewed – If another person needs to check it first.
- Published – To make it visible to all participants.
- Archived – To remove it from public view.
2. Moving Multiple Messages at Once
Select multiple messages using the checkboxes.
Click the "Move to" icon at the top of the list.
Choose the destination (Reviewed, Published, or Archived).
Ensuring Participant Anonymity
If you want participants to remain anonymous during Q&A, ensure that your session settings are set to Anonymous under the Identification section. By default, Vevox sessions keep participants anonymous unless changed.
